LIGHT

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house." Matthew 5: 14-15

The contrast of light and darkness keeps coming up everywhere I look lately. We are keenly aware of the darkness, but it is not our focus. Our focus is on the Light.

When Jesus spoke to them again, he said, "I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

We are invited to be part of the kingdom of God known by what we are for rather than what we are against. The early church didn't fight darkness, they simply brought the light. No matter what came at them, they knew something deeper in their souls. "Don't let your heart be troubled when the world is falling apart." John 14:1

And even when we look far in the distance at the night sky, it is still the lights that become our focus. Like in Genesis 15:5 when God told Abram to "look towards heaven and number the stars, if you are able to number them, so shall your offspring be." It wasn't the darkness, but the stars that God was directing him towards.

And what a privilege it is that God would give us the task of sharing these truths with others so that they too can experience this kind of peace deep in their souls.
